WeCWI: Rising to the Instructional, Technological, Pedagogical, and Theoretical Discoveries of Becoming a Web-Based Instructor

An invention, innovation and design (IID) project entitled WeCWI: Rising to the Instructional, Technological, Pedagogical, and Theoretical Discoveries of Becoming a Web-Based Instructor was showcased in Invention, Innovation & Design Exposition (iidex2015) on 27-30 April 2015 at Dewan Agung Tuanku Canselor (DATC), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Selangor.

This project was led by Dr Mah Boon Yih with his team members including Liaw Shun Chone, Lim Teck Heng, Rosmaliza Mohemed, and Suzana Ab. Rahim. It highlights on the training of educators in four different discoveries of WeCWI committed to becoming web-based instructor. The abstract of the project is shown as follows:

Web-based Cognitive Writing Instruction (WeCWI) is a hybrid e-framework to develop a web-based instruction dedicated to instructional design and language development. Its contribution towards instructional design can be divided into macro and micro perspectives. In macro perspective, WeCWI aims to transform an educator to become an aggregator, curator, publisher, social networker and ultimately, a web-based instructor, through the instructional and technological discoveries. On the other hand, the micro perspective draws attention to the pedagogical and theoretical discoveries by focusing on reading, discussion, and writing. Besides, WeCWI also leads to language development (linguistic and non-linguistic perspectives), which its novelty can be summarized as: (Language Acquisition+Composition Studies+Cognitive Theories) E-learning=WeCWI. On 27 May 2014, WeCWI was officially launched in The Digital Education Show Asia 2014. It was registered as copyright (CRLY00001623) by MyIPO after being approved by RIBU, UiTM. Later, WeCWI was published by WASET in the International Journal of Social, Education, Economics and Management Engineering after being delivered in two keynote addresses (ICELD 2014 and ICLLT 2015). Furthermore, WeCWI was presented in a workshop entitled WeCWI Training Series: Instructional Design (macro) at UiTM (Penang) and featured in DoMoreLah4Malaysia campaign organised by MDeC in 2014. On 4 December 2014, WeCWI garnered the PIID 2014 silver medal award as an innovative idea in ICT. In the future, WeCWI will be showcased in iidex 2015 and The Digital Education Show Asia 2015. It will also be employed in postgraduate studies and consultancy projects. For more information, please visit WeCWI Blog at http://wecwi.blogspot.com.
